Renovation Progress at Deerfield Island Park
BROWARD County Parks and Recreation is embarking on a massive and unique project to turn this urban wilderness into an easily accessible experience for all its visitors.
Projects that have been completed include replacement of all the old composite boardwalk with natural wood, removal of some of the invasive Australian pines, expanding the old butterfly garden to at least 5 times the area of the original, creation of new wandering pathways with a rubberized composite surface for comfortable walking, and usage by a walker or even a wheelchair. All renovations are ADA compliant. New water fountains have also been added.
The Park just reopened to the public this summer. Although, some areas are still closed, such as the Cochina Trail, the newly refurbished restrooms are open and the beautiful new Butterfly Garden and walkways are comfortable places to stroll.
